ATF authorisation and vehicle destruction records
An Authorised Treatment Facility handles waste vehicles under environmental authorisation. The permissions and conditions must match the actual activities at the site.
Start with your regulator
In Scotland, storing or treating waste motor vehicles requires SEPA authorisation. Most sites need a permit. Registration routes cover temporary storage of up to 10 vehicles or storage and treatment of up to 5, subject to standard conditions. If those conditions cannot be met, a permit is required. Check SEPA’s current guidance before starting.
The other UK regulators are the Environment Agency in England, Natural Resources Wales and the Northern Ireland Environment Agency. Check the appropriate regulator’s public register and confirm the activity and site covered by the authorisation.
Certificates and notifications of destruction
A permitted ATF uses DVLA’s CoD/NoD service to report qualifying destruction or depollution. A Certificate of Destruction closes the relevant vehicle record; vehicles outside that process may require a Notification of Destruction. A physical CoD can go to the keeper or the person presenting the vehicle. Check the DVLA service guidance for the correct route.
Keep operational and regulatory records together
Vehicle identification, receiving details, treatment records and onward movements need to follow the operator’s authorisation and current guidance. Check the relevant requirements before starting, changing site ownership or expanding activities.
Where software fits
Prime Yard can help manage vehicle records, dismantling work, parts, locations, listings, orders, returns and recorded costs. Software does not provide environmental authorisation or replace regulatory advice.
